No-Tell Motel (Apartment!)

The No-Tell Motel is an alternative to an apartment building. Don't have the proper credit history to get an apartment? Then just rent a room at the No-Tell Motel. Forever.

The motel is a cheap, crappy little place, but it DOES have a pool! I based it off a real motel, and it is loosely inspired by a bed of the same name from The Sims 1. Not much else to say. This is a fully functional apartment building, only 30x20 in size, and costs just over 14k simoleons. The other rooms are properly set as NPC rooms and NPCs will pop in and out of them. The mailbox and trash can from the normal residential lots is still there because I had no idea how to remove it or if I even should.

Before anyone whines about it, it is SUPPOSED to look tacky! Get over it!

There IS a kind of ridiculous little gate on the upper level, but it was necessary to make the doors NPC doors. NPC doors can only be made when touching an ENCLOSED public area- which is why both the first and second floors have fully enclosed public "hallways".

THE LOBBY IS DECORATED SPARSELY but you can't see anything in the shots because I have Object hiding turned on.

Requires nothing but Late Night. :D

  2. Apartments are actually really easy to build, if that's what you mean.

Basically you build a public area, you build the apartment room, and EVERYTHING ELSE is just empty space. Theres a Public Marker that must go in every enclosed area that you want to function as public, and there's a Hidden Room marker that goes in the NPC rooms, and you simply shift-click the doors to make it so that NPCs "live" in the other rooms. You can even-shift-click the hidden room marker to make it produce ambient noise- either "cheap" or "expensive"!

And that's pretty much all there is to it.

  3. For example, this apartment is actually 5 empty rooms (A room implied to belong to the owner and 4 other motel rooms) and two public but enclosed hallways (the one with thearches on the first floor and the one with the fence around it on the second floor). Every single room but the main one and the apartment one is completely empty. Saves a lot of time.

As well, the cost of the apartment is limited to the room your sim lives in. So technically you COULD build an entire town on a single lot, make all the other houses NPC lots, and your sim would be able to afford to live on that lot! Or you could make a maids quarters in a mansion and your sim could live there, or you could make a guest house and live there, or a motel, and live there. :D

  4. So, I don't have to furnish the NPC rooms? How will they rejuvenate if they don't have the basics? Hmm, I have to read more on building apartments.

I like this one, and will be using it in my CC worlds. I don't like Bridgeport too much.

  5. Nope, NPC rooms don't actually have anything in them. When you place doors on any lot with a Public Room Marker, those doors (if on a wall that opens into an enclosed public area, like a hallway) can be marked as "NPC"

As far as I can tell, this means that sims can be spawned to live there, and they actually just go inside and disappear, presumably coming out with full/randomized needs. Every other room is empty.

Though I should note that in the time I played this lot, no other sims moved in...but everything was set up properly. So I'm not sure what is going on there. Maybe the sims who live in apartments are generated with the world? I don't know.

Note the room next to the furnished one. That's an NPC room.

  7. Ohh, that's neat.
Is the object that tags it with Late Night icon? I could not find it in the debug section.

Thanks, and I lol'd at the Motel name. Ha-ha.

  9. Thanks for the info on making apartments! I like this motel, it kinda brings me back to the days of making motels in Ts1 Hot Date :P

  10. When I placed this into my game, I tried to place a resident into it, but both he and the NPC's could not enter as there's no lobby door? Am I missing something?

  11. Can I please have an answer to my question? I'd really like to include this in my game. Thanks!

  12. I dont believe I used a custom door so I dont know why that would happen. But if you couldn't figure out for a week to just add one yourself, I don't know what to tell you.

  13. That would be splendid except it won't let me edit anything outside the living space... Is there a trick to allow editing the rest of the building? (Yes, sarcasm noted :-P)
